New TCA Facebook and Twitter
Pursuant to action by the TCA Executive Council last summer, the TCA Social Media Committee has set up a Twitter account called @TCASocial. Sign up now to receive Tweets from TCA! Lisa Henderson and her committee expect to enhance the TCA brand with this new approach to communication. They will also redesign the existing TCA Facebook page. Please be aware that the current TCA Facebook will be deleted in order that a new one will be launched soon afterwards. We are grateful to Dr. Jeffrey Freiden for his pioneering work in building the first TCA Facebook and other technologies. Using evolving trends in social media Lisa proposes to build upon Dr. Freiden's work. Lisa proposes to use these technologies to expand the image of TCA as a professional organization and to promote learning opportunities for counselors. We know you will be pleased.
The TCA 2013 Conference is rolling ahead full speed! Conference registration is ahead of where we were at this time last year; and, last year's conference had record attendance. Conference Chair Roosevelt Faulkner and his team are putting together a great 2013 conference. They have ten (10) outstanding pre-conference sessions that offer you extended learning opportunities. They have sixty (60) high quality education sessions from which, I know, you will have difficulty selecting which ones to attend. Many interest groups are organizing receptions and parties for you at this conference. Embassy Suites is rolling out the 'red carpet' of hospitality for attendees who stay with them. If you have not registered, you had better get with it! Read about the conference and hotel amenities at: http://tcaconference2013.com/
TCA Tax Exempt Status
Monday, TCA filed the 2012 990 form to the IRS, before the federal government shutdown. Years ago, TCA was designated a 501(c ) (3) non-profit corporation by the Internal Revenue Service. This designation lapsed when TCA failed to file its annual IRS tax report for the past five years. This happens often with organizations that depend upon volunteers to operate its business. Your TCA leaders are working hard to get TCA reinstated as a 501(c)(3). If we are successful, then we can apply for sales tax waiver status in Tennessee. TCA expects to make TCA the umbrella organization for all chapters and divisions so they will have sales tax waiver status as well.
TCA LPC/MHSP Directory
TCA is making a list of TCA members with LPC credentials who wish to promote their services as mental health providers. This list will be available soon on the TCA website at: http://tncounselors.org/. If you are a school counselor who helps parents identify mental health providers for their families or children, then you will want to review this list. If you are a mental health counselor who wants to be included on this list, then contact me soon.
